ROGERS -- Fayetteville Woodland used three first-half touchdowns passes from Austin Allen to sail past Rogers 26-0 in Northwest Arkansas Conference play Thursday, keeping the Cowboys' league title hopes alive.
Allen, an eighth-grader, is undefeated since taking over the starting job under center for the Cowboys. He was on the top of his game against Rogers, completing 9-of-13 passes for 176 yards.
"Austin (Allen) is getting better every game," said Woodland coach Bobby Crockett. "He is doing a really good job of distributing the ball to our playmakers, and he takes care of the football very well."
Allen connected with Tyler Tuck for a 60-yard touchdown strike on the Cowboys' third play from scrimmage. The duo would hook up again in the second quarter, with Tuck hauling in a 36-yard grab to push Woodland's lead to 13-0.
Rogers (0-7, 0-5) was unable to answer, with Woodland's defense coming up with three turnovers in the half, including a pair of interceptions.
Rogers quarterback Corbin Site's second interception would set up Woodland's third score of the half, as Allen hit Reid Holmes for a 17-yard score that would put the game out of reach.
"The defensive line got after it tonight," said Crockett. "Also, our offensive line did a heck of a job in protection and that really allowed us to have a lot of success in the passing game."
Woodland (6-1, 4-1) didn't allow a first down until the final play of the third quarter, and the defense managed six sacks. The Cowboys will take on Springdale Central next week.
