Lighthouse Society Meets Monday

    ROGERS -- The Arkansas Lighthouse Society will meet at 10 a.m. Monday in the board room at the Rogers Adult Wellness Center.

    Guest speaker Judy Pertle will talk about the Yaquina Head Lighthouse in Newport, Ore. All who enjoy lighthouses and adventures visiting lighthouses are invited.

    Caregiver Support Sets Meeting

    BELLA VISTA -- The caregiver support group sponsored by Village House Adult Day Program will meet at 10 a.m. Oct. 27 at Judson American Baptist Church, 1702 Forest Hills Blvd.

    The meeting will be facilitated by Sharon Comstock, Village House director, and assisted by Dorcus Jackson, Village House board member. Village House is a nonprofit adult day program dedicated to enriching the lives of participants and to providing affordable respite to caregivers. All caregivers are welcome.

    Garden Club Slates Events

    BELLA VISTA -- The Bella Vista Garden Club will meet Wednesday at United Lutheran Church, 100 Cooper Road.

    A social time will begin at 11:30 a.m. and refreshments will be served at noon, followed by a meeting and a program on Horses for Healing presented by Mark Kafka.

    The club will host its second annual card/game party from 12:30 to 4 p.m. Nov. 14 at United Lutheran Church. Cost is $40 a table. Light refreshments, coffee and tea will be served. All proceeds from the event will go to support horticulture scholarships and area beautification projects.

    Ladies Auxiliary Throws Card Party

    BELLA VISTA -- The Ladies Auxiliary of the Robert M. Sterrett VFW Post in Bella Vista will host a community card party on Wednesday at the Post, 103 Veterans Way.

    Refreshments will be served at 11:45 a.m., and play will commence at 12:15 p.m. All area women are welcome to attend, and those who wish to bring goodies to share would be greatly appreciated by the hostesses.

    Calico Cut-Ups Slate Meeting

    BELLA VISTA -- Calico Cut-Ups Quilt Guild will meet at 1 p.m. Oct. 27 at First United Methodist Church, 20 Boyce Drive.

    A business meeting and program presented by Norma Chestnut will be followed by "Show and Tell." Chestnut will also teach a class, "Funky Chicken," at 1 p.m. Oct. 28.

    Exchange Club Hosts Spaghetti Supper

    FAYETTEVILLE -- The Exchange Club of Fayetteville will hold its fourth annual Spaghetti Supper from 5 to 7 p.m. Nov. 6 at Ramay Junior High School.

    Tickets, available in advance or at the door, cost $7 and will enter attendees in a raffle for a Toshiba DVD Player, IPOD Shuffle, Streamlite LED Flashlite, handcrafted adirondack chairs or 500 custom-printed business cards. There will be separate drawings for each and you need not be present to win.

    The fundraiser will advance the Exchange Club's mission to prevent child abuse by helping the club sponsor local organizations like Children's House, the Children's Safety Center, the Boys and Girls Club and the Sunshine Camp.

    Computer Club Slates Classes, Clinic

    The Bella Vista Computer Club Inc. has announced computer classes being offered in October and November:

    • Advanced Computing for XP -- 10 a.m. to noon Oct. 20, 22, 27 and 29

    • Internet -- 1:30 to 3:30 p.m. Oct. 20 and 22

    • Basic Computing for Vista -- 10 a.m. to noon Nov. 3, 5, 10 and 12

    • Digital Photography -- 1 to 3 p.m. Nov. 3, 5, 10 and 12

    • Getting Started With Computers (Vista) -- 10 a.m. to noon Oct. 16

    • Getting Started With Computers (XP) -- 10 a.m. to noon Nov. 17.

    Fees for eight-hour classes are $24 for members and $40 for nonmembers; four-hour classes are $12 for members and $30 for nonmembers; and the two-hour Getting Started courses are $6 for members and $15 for non-members. Classes are held at the Computer Club's Classroom in the lower level of the Highlands Crossing Center, 1801 Forest Hills Blvd., Suite 120 in Bella Vista.

    Library Friends Host Used Book Sale

    BELLA VISTA -- The Friends of the Bella Vista Library's used book store, Encore Books, is having a "clean sweep" sale from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Friday and from 9 a.m. until noon Saturday at the library, 11 Dickens Place.

    Books of all types will be available, along with puzzles, DVDs, VHS tapes and more.

    Whodunit's Group Slates Speaker

    FAYETTEVILLE -- The Whodunit's Book Group, a club that deals with mystery and crime for both readers and writers, will meet at noon Nov. 8 at AQ Chicken House in Fayetteville.

    The guest speaker will be Joel Giarrusso Sharp, a retired FBI agent who has worked in New Orleans, Memphis, Chicago and Fayetteville and who has dealt with white collar crime, kidnapping and anti-terrorism. Newcomers are welcome.

    Moms Group Slates Fair

    BELLA VISTA -- Mothers of Preschoolers will hosts a second annual Holiday Extravaganza from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. Nov. 22 at the Bella Vista Christian Church, 103 Riordan Road.

    The indoor craft and business fair will offer concessions and a door prize of a new sewing machine. The event is open to the public and admission is free.

    Vendor booth space is available for $30.

    Quilt Guild Slates Meetings

    The Pieces and Patches Quilt Guild has announced its meeting schedule for the remainder of the year.

    • Nov. 3 -- club meeting with refreshments at 12:30 p.m. and a Trunk Show by Betty Workman at 1 p.m.

    • Nov. 17 -- club workshop at 10 a.m.

    • Dec. 1 -- potluck luncheon and club fundraising auction Trash to Treasures.

    Sunflower Club Hosts Dinner

    BELLA VISTA -- The Kansas Sunflower Club will meet at 5:30 p.m. Oct. 27 in the dining room of Concordia Retirement Center.

    This is a deviation from the club's usual meeting on the third Monday of each month. Dinner will consist of a choice of two entrees with a salad, soup, dessert and beverage, and will cost $7.26. A skit, "Way Out West in Kansas," will follow.

    All former Kansans are invited to join and there are no dues.

    Dakota Club Slates Program

    BELLA VISTA -- The Dakota Club of Northwest Arkansas will meet at 6 p.m. Oct. 28 at Papa Mike's Restaurant at the Kingsdale Grill.

    Bella Vista resident Don Modica will present "Creating a Rainbow," a program about making stained glass art.

    A social time will begin at 5:30 p.m., followed by dinner at 6 p.m. and the program at 7 p.m.

    Anyone who has lived in North Dakota or South Dakota is welcome. Current club members will be contacted regarding reservations. All others may call 876-2621 by Oct. 24.

    Women's Golf Plans Brunch

    BELLA VISTA -- The Bella Vista Women's Golf Club will host its Fall Brunch on Oct. 30 at Riordan Hall.

    Doors will open at 9 a.m., and brunch will be served at 9:30 a.m. The theme is "Black & White," and attendees are encouraged to dress accordingly.

    The cost is $10 and reservations are required. Checks should be made payable to BVWGC and mailed to Glenda Burris, 67 Dogwood Drive, Bella Vista 72715; they must be received by Oct. 22, after which no refunds will be issued.

    Support Group Meets Mondays

    The Northwest Arkansas chapter of the Depression and Bipolar Support Alliance meets from 7 to 9 p.m. every Monday at St. Andrew's Episcopal Fellowship Hall on the corner of Ninth and Oak streets in Rogers. This is a change in location from the group's former meeting place; the DSBA is not affiliated with the Episcopal Church.

    The meetings are open to patients, family and friends.
