Quarterbacks -- D
Arkansas quarterback Casey Dick had one of his worst performances of the season, never getting into much of a rhythm throwing the football. He completed 11-of-29 passes for 94 yards with one touchdown and two interceptions. He threw four consecutive incompletions on the team’s final drive, including an interception on fourth down to seal the Kentucky win.
Running Backs -- B+
On his own, starter Michael Smith had a performance worthy of a solid “A.” Even with his costly fumble at the goal line, the junior rushed 35 times for a career-high 192 yards before suffering an apparent concussion. He was also Arkansas’ leading receiver with three catches for 33 yards and one touchdown. But backup De’Anthony Curtis had a costly fumble in the fourth quarter, and he couldn’t make up for the loss of Smith.
Wide Receivers -- C-
Arkansas’ wide receivers were a nonfactor for the most part. Tight end D.J. Williams didn’t have a single catch, and receiver London Crawford again dropped too many passes. Freshman Joe Adams led all receivers with two catches for 24 yards, not enough to pull out a road win at Kentucky. They also had trouble lining up, resulting in penalties.
Offensive Line -- B-
Arkansas’ front line had an up-and-down performance. It included several penalties, some solid run blocking and not enough pass protection. Dick was sacked three times and faced constant pressure. At the same time, the offensive line created enough holes for Smith to run through over the first three quarters.
Defensive Line -- B-
Defensive tackle Malcolm Sheppard seemed to be everywhere early on, recording six tackles and 1 1/2 sacks. Defensive end Antwain Robinson added a half-sack, but the front line didn’t get enough pressure on Kentucky quarterback Mike Hartline during his two late touchdown passes.
Linebackers -- C+
Wendel Davis forced a fumble that fellow linebacker Jerry Franklin returned 14 yards to set up an Arkansas touchdown. Davis and Franklin were each credited with six tackles, but the linebackers struggled like the rest of the defense down the stretch. Freddy Burton got beat on the game-winning touchdown, a 21-yard catch by Kentucky wide receiver Randall Cobb.
Secondary -- C-
Safety Elton Ford led Arkansas with 10 tackles, and he and cornerback Ramon Broadway each recorded an interception. But safety Matt Harris missed a tackle that led to Kentucky’s first touchdown, a 71-yard catch by Alfonso Smith. And after containing Hartline for much of the first three quarters, Arkansas’ secondary gave up too many big passes over the final minutes of the loss.
Special Teams -- B-
The biggest thing is Arkansas’ special teams didn’t make any game-changing mistakes like in previous weeks. Kicker Shay Haddock needed a lucky bounce, but made his two field-goal attempts of 19 and 23 yards. Punter Jeremy Davis had a mediocre game, averaging 34.3 yards on six punts. But he did flop to draw a penalty on the Wildcats. Arkansas didn’t get much from its return game.
Coaching -- C-
Arkansas’ playcalling got very conservative down the stretch, settling for simple runs instead of trying to get the first downs needed to run out the clock. There were questions about whether coach Bobby Petrino should have had Davis take a late safety like he did against Auburn instead of giving Kentucky a short field to work with. And defensive coordinator Willy Robinson must take some of the blame for another fourth-quarter collapse by his unit.
