PINE BLUFF -- Bill Clinton and leading Arkansas Democrats appealed Saturday to voters statewide to make national history by putting Barack Obama in the White House.

In typical Clinton fashion, the former president arrived late for the get-out-the-vote rally. But, also in Clinton style, he invigorated an already lively crowd of some 1,500 Obama supporters after they had attended a college homecoming parade.

“I can be very brief about this. Barack Obama is going to win this election,” Clinton said as applause and cheers drowned out his words. “And he’s going to win it well, big, and he’s going to win because he’s a good candidate, because he’s got a great vice presidential partner, because he’s got the best positions on the issues and because our country is in struggle.”

One after another Arkansas’ top Democrats took the stage to tout Obama’s credentials. Former U.S. Sens. David Pryor and Dale Bumpers, Sen. Mark Pryor, Rep. Mike Ross, Gov. Mike Beebe, former U.S. Transportation Secretary Rodney Slater, and former Gov. Jim Guy Tucker each said Arkansas and the country needs Obama to lead them.

A recent poll shows Obama trailing in Arkansas, which has not voted for a Democratic presidential candidate since Clinton’s re-election in 1996. Bush carried the state in 2000 and 2004. In the University of Arkansas poll, 51 percent of registered voters surveyed said they would vote for Republican John McCain while 36 percent said they support Obama.

Loyal to their former governor and first lady, Arkansas Democrats threw their support to Hillary Rodham Clinton in the primary, while the prospect of electing the first female president or putting the first African-American in the White House passionately divided Democrats around the country.

In an appeal to his wife’s die-hard supporters, Clinton told the crowd Saturday that she has been working just as hard for Obama as she did for herself in her own campaign.

Clinton said Obama has the leadership qualities needed to fix the country’s financial crisis and stop mortgage foreclosures so people can get credit again. The Illinois senator has the best healthcare plans and can bring an end to the Iraq war, reverse U.S. dependence on foreign oil, and reduce global warming, Clinton said.

Obama will win the Nov. 4 election, Clinton said, because of what the country has gone through under a Republican president for the last eight years.

“We got to see for most of President Bush’s term what would actually happen to America if the extreme right-wing philosophy that he and his allies in the Republican Party had advocated for the last 30 years were actually made real in the lives of the American people,” he said.

Academy award-winning actress Mary Steenburgen, a native Arkansan who also has a residence in the state, appeared on stage. She did not address the crowd, but Clinton said she had asked him to urge them to vote against an Arkansas ballot proposal that would ban gays from being foster parents or adopting children.

Clinton and the state Democratic powerhouses began their two-day campaign in North Little Rock on Friday. After the Pine Bluff event, they headed to Jonesboro for a closing rally.

    " Americas 44th President

Good bye George and Richard. We will miss you both a great deal because of your sound judgment in committing our country to the invasion and very expensive protracted war in Iraq. And thanks so much for also establishing reasonable regulatory oversight of Wall Street and of our mortgage lending and financial system during your 8 year watch.
Sorry Bill and Hillary. Of course we really wanted to have you back again in order to give Bill another shot at finding some more action with interns in the oval office; and we will certainly miss not being able to hear all the details of such encounters.
John, we will always respect you for putting the needs of our country above petty politics in choosing your running mate; but Sarah, unfortunately it looks like we may never get the chance to fulfill our wildest dream: to someday have President Palin lead the free world. "

But what about Barack Obama? The New York Times in its endorsement of Barack Obama said: Mr. Obama has met challenge after challenge, growing as a leader and putting real flesh on his early promises of hope and change. He has shown a cool head and sound judgment. We believe he has the will and the ability to forge the broad political consensus that is essential to finding solutions to this nations problems.

In the same time, Senator John McCain of Arizona has retreated farther and farther to the fringe of American politics, running a campaign on partisan division, class warfare and even hints of racism. His policies and worldview are mired in the past. His choice of a running mate so evidently unfit for the office was a final act of opportunism and bad judgment that eclipsed the accomplishments of 26 years in Congress. "

Senator John McCain is a respected 72 year old American warrior, but he is on a path whose slope, however gentle, is downward. On the contrary Senator Barack Obama is an intelligent, articulate, and insightful 47 year old American whose best years lie ahead of him; a man who graduated near the top of his class at Harvard Law School and was president of its Law Review; a man who understands and respects the American constitution because he was an instructor of constitutional law for 12 years at the University of Chicago Law School; a man familiar with the American legislative process because he served 3 terms as an Illinois State Senator and for the past 4 years as a US Senator; a man acquainted with Washington but one who also brings fresh ideas and a passion for bringing about important and necessary changes in Washington. Senator Barack Obama is a man of equanimity, keen intellect, clear vision, sound judgment, and steadfast determination. He is the man America needs today, and also the man who can lead America tomorrow. It is time for Americans everywhere to cast their ballots for Barack Obama. It is time for Barack Obama to become Americas 44th president. "

He's one heck of a speaker when prompted but out of the box, sorry, he is just not ready yet in my opinion.

I will not say that McCain is the 100% best, but sorry again in my opinion and given the only two viable options, he's better than "the one", lol.

My opinion being based upon my research into the truth of everything and not buying into much of what the media or polls say.

Did we have better choices in the primaries?? Absolutely! Now we are down to the lesser of two evils unfortunately, and again sorry but "the one", lol, is just not quite ready yet. "

" I will be voting Obama, not really a Pro-Obama vote as much as it is an anti-McCain vote. I am suprised more people aren't holding the Republican party more liable for 8 years of Bush. Maybe with a Democrate President and Congress we can get something accomplished. I doubt we will have more taxes, but I am sure we will have more debt. But the alternative is John McCain who will just make his wealth and his wealthy buddies wealthier. Trickle economics will only trickle down overseas due to our globalizaion leaving us as bottom feeders in the economy struggling to survive. At least Obama is aware that we are hurting. Mr. 100 million dollar McCain probably wouldn't notice America is hurting if gas was $1000 a gallon. The only reason he is preaching it to "his friends" is because his advisors told him America is hurting. Gee, I feel better now getting that off my chest... "

Do you really think that by taxing corporate business and anyone that makes over $250 grand a year that the lower classes arent going to get punched even harder than they are now? If you dont believe so then you are deluding yourself.

For instance say Obama makes it in and begins to tax say big oil companies, and yes I agree that they make to much already, but here is the deal, so the oil companies are getting taxed more, which in turn cuts into their profit margin, how do you think they will make that loss up??? If you guessed by padding the costs on to the consumer you guessed correctly. The same will go with any other corporation or industry.

" Contd........... I heard a dem on the news the other day say "there is no such thing as double taxation!" and he said so many times emphatically. How deluded can one person be to believe such poppycock?

Of course there is double taxation! They take taxes out of every paycheck you earn to the tune of approx 24%, every single payday, then at the end of the year when you file, very rarely do you see all that money back, in fact you will most likely pay in, like it or not when you dont get back all you paid in, or you pay in more at the end of the year, you just paid a second tax on your income as well as extra taxes on assets.

Now as to a Democratic Congress getting anything done?? LOL For the last 4 years the Dems have held the majority seat and as well have pushed more than their fair share of pork, and to this day not much has been done.

The current economic turmoil can likewise be traced back to do nothing greedy dems.

Now just to be fair here I am not saying that there were not any republicans with their hands in the cookie jar as well as I am not foolish enough nor am I deluded enough to believe that they didnt, I know some did.

One question I want anyone to consider here is "how much government do you want in your personal business???".

Another thing is that if you have ever read up on socialism, marxism, or even communism, and history one proof of history is that none of them work and in fact in almost every country that employed such governmental tactics, they put people further in the poorhouse than we have ever experienced in the US short of the decade of the great depression.

I used to work with salesmen/women I got used to being able to spot a sales pitch almost instantly, there is an insincerity about a sales pitch that roars out through the rhetoric.

I just cant in good conscience vote for a candidate that believes that bigger government, socialized health care, socialized taxation, and one blatantly said that he wanted to "spread the wealth".

So I am left with the alternative. Which I think is better based upon what I have seen and read, and no not in the media or on blogs either. "

We need to stop spending $10 billion in a country that doesn't want us there.
As to "big" government in our private business, do you enjoy having all of your e-mails, phone calls, bank accounts, and travel monitored by Homeland security? As for health care, well most Americans don't have ANY. Can't afford ANY. As for "Socialism", well, just how do you think our current tax system works? If we as Americans don't make our needs and desires known, nothing will change. It used to be that in order to be heard, you had to call or write a letter to your congressman. With the electronic age, it's as simple as clicking on a link, and typing a message. Yet we don't bother to even do that. Obama was right in his early speeches. Washington is broken. We'd better figure out how to fix it or we're all going to be sorry. "

They are the only National Guard Unit on permanent active duty. Sarah Palin is the Commander in Chief of the Alaska National Guard and is routinely briefed on highly classified issues, homeland security and counter terrorism. She also holds a higher security clearance that Obama or Biden. Doesn't sound like inexperience to me.

There is a better way to decide the better presedential candidate and that is to evaluate where Mr. Obama came.
Illinois....a corrupt and bankrupt state. The governor, Blagoavich, is close to indictment because of his dealings with Tony Rezko. You remember the same guy Senator Obama is associated with and from whom he got his house and land. The state is financially bankrupt and cannot pay it's healthcare bills or any other bill due for that matter. Senator Obama voted to allow scissors to stab an unborn baby's brain. Senator Obama supported Illinois Senator "Turbin" Durbin and his position regarding our military'a "gullag" status. Senator Obama is associated and supportive of Chicago's Mayor Daley. The mayor initiated the no gun law in Chicago. It allows only criminals to possess guns, which has given Chicago the murder capital of the nation award. Chicago had more murders than New York and Los Angeles. Then, of course, Senator Obama's relationship with Ayers, the self professed and nonrepentent anti-american bomber. These are real issues that Americans better face before they vote for him. His campaign slogan should read..Change the US to what I am familiar with.. Illinois and Chicago!!! That's what we're going to get if he's voted in as president. "

Putting McCain in is simply taking one of the "good ole boys" out of one building, and putting him in another.
McCain's economic plan is basically an extension of Bush's. US companies have been taking these tax breaks for years and have used them to create stock dividends, not jobs. Obama wants to tie those breaks to real job creation.
McCain had a chance in the beginning. Palin has been his downfall. The thought of having pit-bull-sockermom-joe six-pack Sarah in charge makes me cringe. As for testing the new president... Are you aware of the fact that Russia is getting very cozy with Chavez in Venezuela? "

Before McCain and his blind supporters take such a stubborn stance, they should spend time in foreign countries like I have and see what the rest of the world REALLY thinks of us, and our ignorant, warmongering overbearing, and non-communicative policies.

Taxes that were collected, and "redistributed". Socialism at work. The Freeways you drive on were built with socialistic re-distributed funds. Do you really think that people like Akmadenijad (sp?), Chavez, and bullies like them can be bargained with?? Or that we havent even tried?? LOL

Why do people think that a congress that consist of any majority part could ever get anything meaningful accomplished much less even be considered Bipartisan???

My feeling is that Democracy has become broken in an extreme way. Why do both parties not nominate at least two of their respective parties to run in presidential elections to give we the people more of a choice???

Just some of the many things that weigh heavily on my mind these days.

One thing though that you may want to think about is will our next president, whomever that may be, end up being little more than a puppet for congress, or will they be an actual leader for the people??? Think about that before you cast your vote. "

As to being the commander-in-chief, That is his job. If I were the parent of a child serving in Iraq, and having seen the "farce" used by Cheney, the pentagon, and Bush to justify the war, I'd be wanting someone's hide. My son served in the Navy. Right now we are in the midst of some pretty bad economic times, with the majority of blame being placed on Bush and his administration, sure they played a part in it, but just a part, however there are some that are plenty naive as to say that its "ALL" Bushes fault and I have to laugh because those of us that still rely on truth and common sense know that not to be true.

Obama is a good oratorm especially so when prompted and knows how to use his voice, I will give him that. He comes off though to much as a salesperson working to get you to buy exactly what you dont want or need.

He has yet to explain just how he will fully fund the billions of dollars in policies that had planned because the "spread the wealth" idea is not going to cover even a small percentage.

His tax plans would be unfair, that is something that I have to agree with Constitutionally and based upon history.

Some say the Iraq war was wrong and unneeded, and I would disagree with them for reasons to long to state here.

There are a great number of things that bother me about Obama, most of all though the policies on his agenda that are socialist in nature.

I dont necessarily agree with what the current tax system has become, but this type of system is far from socialistic, nor is it a "spread the wealth" type system. The money that is paid in, in taxes is, supposed to be anyway, used to help run the government, pay for much needed services, for example Beaver Dam which provides clean hydroelectric for a portion of this region, to help pay for national infrastructure, etc...... thats not a socialist system by any stretch of the imagination.

In fact to vote based upon party, race, gender, or anything other than the best person for the job is not only ludicrous it is infantile.

My hope is that those that are voting in this election and elections to come are voting because they believe that the person they are voting for is the best person for the job and that they believe so because they have done their own research and not relied solely upon media outlets for their information.

If they are voting because of party affiliation, race, gender, etc.... then I am sorry but shame on them.

Its time to put, mainly party affiliation aside and vote, based on solid information, for the best person for the job.
