FAYETTEVILLE -- Former Pulaski Academy tailback and current Southern California redshirt freshman Broderick Green has Arkansas on his short list of schools he is considering a transfer to.

Green got his release from USC over the weekend and is planning to transfer closer to home due to family issues when the semester ends in December.

Contacted on Monday in Los Angeles, Green mentioned Arkansas, Tennessee, Missouri and Kansas as possible destinations.

"I'm going to look around the schools close by," Green said. "There are some family problems I think I need to be around for. My mother and grandmother are both sick and my mom is going though some other stuff. They both live alone and I just don't like being so far away from them. I need to be back closer to home so I can take care of them."

The Razorbacks would seem to be an ideal fit in that regard and also because he has friends on the team.

"I've been talking with (current UA freshman wideout) Joe Adams and (redshirting Razorback quarterback) Ryan Mallett, who are both good friends of mine," Green said. "They like what is happening down there right now and it certainly is a situation that I am looking at."

At his size, Green (6-foot-2, 232 pounds, 4.57 seconds 40-yard dash) fits the profile of what Arkansas coach Bobby Petrino calls a "big back."

"They (Adams and Mallett) have mentioned that to me and my high school coach (Kevin Kelly) has also talked about it," Green said. "I am 6-2, 232 right now and I would like to be around 225-230 when I do play again."

Green will have the opportunity to apply for immediate eligibility to the NCAA, although he stressed it is not his focus and if he needs to sit out the 2009 season he will.

"That's on the NCAA," Green said. "I'm just worried about my family."

Green rushed for 2,000 yards and also caught passes for more than 600 yards for Pulaski Academy as a senior while accounting for 23 touchdowns.

With the former coaching staff at Arkansas not showing a great deal of interest, Green committed to USC 10 months before signing date and, although he gave Penn State heavy consideration late, he ended up signing with the Trojans.

After getting to USC, Green suffered a stress fracture in the 2007 preseason and had to redshirt.

He was one of six Parade All-America tailbacks on the USC roster this season and had rushed for 168 yards on 32 carries.

His best moment as a Trojan was rushing 18 times for 121 yards and two touchdowns in a 69-0 win over Washington State a few weeks ago.

"This is not a thing where I am trying to get away from USC," Green said. "I love it out here and I have learned a lot, but I just need to be closer to home for my family."

USC head coach Pete Carroll told the Los Angeles Times that maybe it was a combination of both (a lack of playing time and family issues).

"I think the number of guys he's battling against was a concern," Carroll said. "Somewhere in there, that was one of his concerns, but he has a lot of things that are weighing on him."

Green is no longer practicing with the team and instead is concentrating on his classes. He will be back in Little Rock on either Dec. 17 or 18.

Between now and that point, he will evaluate his options.

"I am just going to see which schools ask to talk with me and make the best decision for me and my family," Green said. "It's all about my family right now."
