    Tour Ushers In Holidays

EUREKA SPRINGS -- Share holiday cheer and remember Christmas Past at the 26th annual Eureka Springs Christmas Tour of Homes.

Each year, homeowners in the Victorian village invite spectators inside their residences. Visitors can get a glimpse of a bygone era in which elegant ladies dressed in their finery and dapper gentlemen donned tails and ties for dinner as they tour a downtown listed on the National Register of Historic Places. The event is set for 2 to 6 p.m. Saturday and is hosted by the Eureka Springs Preservation Society.

The tour offers a unique opportunity to revisit the grandeur of this graceful era and the homes that still enchant. Stroll along Eureka Street and Upper Mountain Street amidst hundreds of luminaries, as well as choir music, carolers, band music, refreshments and Victorian merriment. All stops on the self-guided tour will be decorated for the season with Victorian-attired docents at each site eager to relate the history of each home.

Ten decorated locations are participating in this year's tour. Several of the locations have been completely renovated just in time to participate this year. "The attention to detail in each of the homes makes this tour truly special for not only the architectural buffs, but also for the history enthusiasts alike; each will marvel at stunning interior details, grand staircases, ornately carved fireplace mantels, sparkling stained glass and wonderful millwork, all bedecked in festive holiday trimmings," said Dee Bright, president of the Preservation Society. "It's a lovely way to begin your holidays."

Tickets are available at the Eureka Springs Chamber of Commerce (800) 638-7352 and the Eureka Springs Historical Museum 253-9417. Tickets are $15 in advance and $20 the day of the tour. Children 12 and under will be admitted free.

    Ball, Auction Slated Saturday

EUREKA SPRINGS -- The annual Eureka Springs Historical Museum fundraiser ball and silent auction will be from 7 to 11 p.m. Saturday at the Basin Park Hotel ballroom.

Tickets are $20 in advance and $25 at the door.

Proceeds of the event provide funding to support the needs and operations of the Historical Museum, a 501c(3) non-profit corporation. This winter, repairs are planned to the roof and porch of the museum building.

Tickets are available at the museum, 95 S. Main St., or by calling 253-9417. A table for eight may be reserved for $240.
