    Support Home Offers Free Exams

    FAYETTEVILLE -- Washington Regional Cancer Support Home will offer free clinical breast exams from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Jan. 17 at the home located at 1101 N. Woolsey Ave.

    The exams are performed by physicians and registered nurse practitioners.

    Appointments are required. To schedule an appointment, call 521-8024.

    This is part of the No Excuses Breast Cancer Outreach Program. For more than a decade, the program has been offered to stress the importance of early detection of breast cancer.

    The program is made available by Washington Regional Cancer Support Home through a grant received from the Ozark Affiliate of Susan G. Komen for the Cure.

    Blood Center Slates Drives

    For the 14th consecutive year, Community Blood Center of the Ozarks is presenting the Miracle of Giving Blood Drive at all Blood Center blood drives and donor centers between Monday and Jan. 5.

    During the special event, all participants will receive a navy blue T-shirt with a holiday theme.

    The Community Blood Center of the Ozarks sponsors the following blood drives:

    • Bentonville -- 2 to 4 p.m. Tuesday, The Gardens at Osage Terrace, 3317 S.E. "L" St.

    • Berryville -- 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. Friday, First National Bank of Berryville, 305 Public Square

    • Fayetteville -- 11:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. Tuesday, V.A. Hospital, 1100 N. College Ave.

    • Fayetteville -- 3 to 6 p.m. Friday, December 26, Harps - Crossover, 1780 N. Crossover Road

    • Rogers -- noon to 6 p.m. Wednesday, Frisco Station Mall, 100 N. Dixieland Road

    • Rogers -- 9 a.m. to noon Friday, Home Depot, 1701 S. 46th St.

    • Rogers -- 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday, Rogers Post Office, 401 N. Eighth St.

    • Siloam Springs -- 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. Dec. 28, First Baptist Church, 2000 Dawn Hill Road

    * Springdale -- 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. Tuesday, Arvest -- Springdale, Emma Avenue, 415 W. Emma Ave.

    Donations also are accepted from noon to 7 p.m. Monday through Wednesday, 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. Thursday and Friday and 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. the first Saturday of the month, at the Springdale Donor Center, 3503 S. Thompson St.; or from 11 a.m. at the Bentonville Donor Center, 1400 S.E. Walton Blvd.

    Head Start Taking Applications

    EOA Head Start of Washington County is accepting applications for preschool enrollment. Children who were at least 3 years old by Sept. 15 are eligible for the remainder of this academic year. Children with disabilities are encouraged to apply.

    Income-eligible families do not pay any fees for Head Start services.

    CASA Hosts Thursday Party

    Court-Appointed Special Advocates of Northwest Arkansas, with donations from community individuals and corporations, hosted the second annual Christmas party for all foster children and their foster families from Washington, Benton, Carroll, and Madison counties.

    Approximately 320 foster children and their families visited Thursday with Santa, participated in arts and crafts projects, had a chance to win door prizes, and enjoyed holiday food and fun.

    Many companies and individuals provided gifts, food and monetary help for this event, including Wal-Mart/Sam's Club, Tyson, the University of Arkansas, Doubletree Guests Suites and RU4C (Riders United for Children). Each child's wish list was filled by local individuals, families, companies, civic groups and churches.

    CASA of Northwest Arkansas is a nonprofit organization giving a voice to children in foster care. Trained volunteers work with the children to ensure that their needs are met and that their journey through foster care is as brief as possible.
