BASEBALL
• BENTONVILLE YOUTH SIGNUPS: Bentonville Youth Baseball is begining registration for the spring 2009 season. Cal Ripken and Babe Ruth leagues will be offered for players ages 4-18 whose birthday is on or before April 30, 2009. Fees for this season are $75 for ages 4-7 and $90 for ages 8-18. Online registration is also open at the league Web site www.bentonvillecalripken.org.
BASKETBALL

FOOTBALL
• WAR CATS TRYOUT: The Arkansas War Cats Minor League Football Club of the World Football League will host their first tryout for 2009 on Jan. 17 from 6:30-9 p.m. at All Star Sports Arena in Springdale. LACROSSE
• SPRING SIGNUPS: The YMCA of Northwest Arkansas Lacrosse club will be conducting spring signups for boys on Jan. 10 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the Arvest Community room in downtown Bentonville. Signups for girls will be held on Jan. 24 from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. also at the Arvest community room. Boys and girls currently in the 5th-12th grade are eligible to play and no experience is necessary. Boys will play teams from Oklahoma, Missouri and Kansas this year including their first home games. This is the first season for the girls team. Contact mcmurrin@cox.net or call 855-9324.

• PICKLEBALL: If you're looking for a way to exercise and stay fit, the old childhood game of Pickleball is being offered at the Springdale Youth Center every Mon-Wed-Fri from 9-11 a.m.
RUGBY
• BENTON COUNTY BLUES: High school-aged boys interested in learning rugby football and playing for the Benton County Blues in the spring may sign up for fall practice now. Visit usarugby .org/membership or call Blues coach Zan Martin at 636-1970.
SOCCER
• ROGERS LEAGUE: Registration for the 2009 Youth Spring Soccer League will be taken until Feb. 13 at the Rogers Activity Center. Children ages 5-16 are eligible to participate. Children must turn 5 by April 4, 2009 to participate. All U6-U12 players must register even if they played in the fall. The registration fees are as follows: Under 6 ($35), Under 7 through Under 12 ($40), Under 14 ($100), and Under 16 ($100). The U14 and U16 registration is only for players that did not play in the fall 2008 season. Each participant must have a current RAC membership ($20). • PLAYERS SOUGHT: The NWA Heat is currently looking for competitive softball players to complete their roster. They are currently 12U and will move to 14U in the fall. • ROGERS LEAGUE: Registration for the Rogers Community-School Recreation Association girls fast-pitch softball program will be taken Jan. 1-March 20 at the Rogers Activity Center. The program begins with girls currently in kindergarten, and goes up to 18-Under (girls who did not turn 19 before January 1, 2009). Cost for grades K-1 is $40; cost for older divisions is $50. TRACK
• OFFICIATING CLINIC: The University of Arkansas Track Officials' Association will host a free officiating clinic on Saturday. Anyone interested in learning more about officiating track and field for the Razorbacks or on the local level is welcomed to attend. The clinic will run from 9 a.m.-3 p.m. at the Tyson Indoor track. VOLLEYBALL
• OFFICIALS NEEDED: The Rogers Community-School Recreation Association is looking for adult referees to officiate games in the adult volleyball league. League games are played on Tuesday and Friday evenings. Referees will be paid $18 per game and each referee will usually work four games each night. • SPRINGDALE CO-ED LEAGUE: Registration for co-ed volleyball will begin Friday and run through Jan. 9 at the Springdale Youth Center. Fees will be $150 and must be paid in full at time of registration. League play will start Jan. 19 and run through mid-March. • COMPETITIVE LEAGUE: A competitive league for players in grades 6-9 will be offered at All-Star Sports Arena in Springdale. The league starts Jan. 30. Team and individual volleyball registrations are now being accepted. Games will be played on Friday nights. Cost is $65 per player.
