    Wal-Mart Retired Women Schedule Meeting

    ROGERS -- Wal-Mart Retired Women (Headquarters) will meet for fun and laughter at 11:30 a.m. Tuesday at Johnny Carino's Italian Restaurant in Rogers.

    Starlight Club Slates Year's First Dance

    BELLA VISTA -- The Starlight Ballroom Dancers Club will hold its first dance of the year Wednesday at Riordan Hall, 2 Riordan Drive.

    A dancing lesson will take place from 6:30 to 7 p.m., followed by dancing until 9 p.m. Dues for new members are $10 per person for January to May. Starlight events are open to the public for a fee of $2 per person.

    Entry to Riordan Hall costs $2 per person or is free to those with Property Owners Association photo ID card.

    In case of inclement weather, call Riordan Hall at 855-8170 before 5 p.m. for cancellations.

    Embroiderers Meet Thursday

    BELLA VISTA -- The Bella Vista Chapter of the Embroiderers' Guild of America will meet at 9 a.m. Thursday at St. Theodore's Episcopal Church. The program will be a slide show from national EGA. This is a stitch-along event, so participants are encouraged to bring the usual stitching supplies. Guests are welcome.

    Writers Club Meets Thursday

    SILOAM SPRINGS -- The Siloam Springs Writers will meet at 7 p.m. Thursday at Books on Broadway. The prose assignment is to write "If I Were President." The poetry assignment is a ballad about January. Members and guests are asked to bring something they have written or a work by a favorite author to read for the program.

    Handweavers Guild Plans Presentation

    SPRINGDALE -- The Northwest Handweavers Guild will meet at 10 a.m. Saturday at the Arts Center of the Ozarks, 214 S. Main St.

    Monte Harris will present "Arkansas Ladies of the Loom," a program about handwoven coverlets made during the time of the Civil War. Three coverlets that survived the Battle of Pea Ridge are on display at the Rogers Historical Museum, where Harris is on staff.

    Anyone who owns a coverlet and would like to show it is welcome to attend. The presentation will be followed by a business meeting and refreshments.

    Genealogical Society Installs Officers

    FAYETTEVILLE -- The Washington County Arkansas Genealogical Society will meet at 2 p.m. Jan. 11 at Headquarters House, 118 E. Dickson St. The new 2009 officers will be installed and there will be a short program on how to transcribe a cemetery. Information: www.rootsweb.com/~arwcags.

    Christian Women Meet For Brunch

    BELLA VISTA -- The Bella Vista Christian Women's Club monthly meeting and brunch will be held at 9:30 a.m. Jan. 13 at the First United Methodist Church, 20 Boyce Drive.

    The theme for this month is "Read a Good Book Lately?" with Marianne Farner of the Bella Vista Library. Guest speaker Linda Apple of Fayetteville will present the topic "A New Point of View."

    The meeting is nondenominational and open to the public. Brunch costs $10, and reservations must be honored or canceled.

    Welcome Club Announces Programs

    This month's Bella Vista Welcome Club Breakfast will be held at 9 a.m. Jan. 16 at Riordan Hall. Participants will again enjoy Papa Mike's cooking, and the program will be "City Planning 101," presented by Gail Klesen.

    Welcome Club members will be contacted to make reservations for this meeting. Members who do not receive a phone call or e-mail may call Sue Schrader, reservations chairwoman, at 876-9983.

    The club also announced upcoming programs: Sophisticated Ladies in February, Pride of the Ozarks Men's Chorus and Quartets in March and POA Candidate Forum in April.

    The Bella Vista Welcome Club is a social and charitable organization featuring monthly breakfasts, informative Welcome Coffees for new residents, and a variety of special interest groups for golf, cards, dining out and visiting places in the Northwest Arkansas area. Those interested in joining should call John or Marion Eagle, membership chairmen, at 855-7334.

    Computer User Group Schedules Meeting

    SPRINGDALE -- The Northwest Arkansas Personal Computer User Group will meet at 1 p.m. Jan. 17 in suites 217, 219, 221 of the Education and Computer Center in the north wing of the Jones Center for Families. The program will be a general discussion and question and answer session, moderated by Joe Schork, club president.

    Visitors are always welcome without charge or obligation. Membership applications will be on hand for those interested in joining.

    P.E.O. Chapter Slates Meeting

    BELLA VISTA -- P.E.O. chapter CD will meet at noon Jan. 19 at Metfield Neighborhood Grill, 1 Euston Road. The program will be presented by Mary Harreld, and unaffiliates are welcome to attend. Contact hostesses Joyce Horle or Dottie Allen for more information.

    Ladies Day Out Post-Holiday Party

    BELLA VISTA -- The Welcome Club Ladies Day Out will have its second annual "After the Holidays" party from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. Jan. 20 at the Metfield Clubhouse.

    The festivities will start with a "re-gifting" exchange. Bring a wrapped, priceless treasure that someone (not you) cannot live with out.

    Participants will have lunch off the menu, followed by a lively bingo game, which will provide an opportunity to win even more treasures. To reserve a spot, call Susan Scott at 855-9049 or Millie Stewart at 855-9312 by Jan. 16. The club hopes to hear not only from faithful regulars, but also new members and former attendees. The club's schedule for 2009 will be revealed at this gathering.

    Book Club Discusses Work

    BELLA VISTA -- The Bella Vista Book Club will meet at 1 p.m. Jan. 20 at the First United Methodist Church of Bella Vista, 20 Boyce Drive.

    The book to be discussed is "Gertrude Bell: Queen of the Desert, Shaper of Nations" by Georgina Howell. All are welcome and encouraged to wear nametags.
