SPRINGDALE -- Tyson Foods said its Dynamic Fuels facility is officially under construction in Geismar, La., with concrete foundations being poured on Monday. It's been just 18 months since the alternative fuels partnership was formed between the Springdale-based meat giant and Tulsa, Okla.-based Syntroleum Corp.

The project remains on-budget and on schedule for startup in early 2010. The new facility will use Syntroleum's Bio-Synfining Technology to convert animal fats and greases provided by Tyson into ultraclean renewable diesel and jet fuel, the release said.

The facility is expected to cost $138 million. The project is being funded by cash investments from the partners, plus $100 million in bond revenue approved under the GO Zone Bond program following hurricanes Katrina and Rita.

Staffing with permanent plant personnel is expected to start mid-year as construction progresses and plant startup approaches, the release said.
